His first etchings began in 1626 with religious scenes. Some engravings are the result of paintings that Rembrandt had done a few years earlier but others are made before the paintings of the same title. In the past, only the engraving exists and is not related to a painting. The major theme here is religious with scenes from the New and Old Testament. Ignace Joseph de Claussin was an engraver and print dealer in Paris. He was also a great collector of Rembrandt's prints. He had decided to make a catalog raisonné of the said artist, for which he went to auctions in order to acquire the prints present on the market. He is not only a collector but also an aquafortist, that's how he manages to reproduce Rembrandt's prints.
